Big Bird is back in the political spotlight, but this time on his own terms, helping Michelle Obama convince kids to eat healthy and stay active.

The Sesame Street character stars in two public service announcements released Thursday by the White House to mark the third anniversary of the first lady’s “Let’s Move” campaign to fight childhood obesity.

In one of the videos, Big Bird and Obama are in the White House kitchen looking for snacks.

Big Bird visits with First Lady Michelle Obama in the White House kitchen to learn about how easy it can be to grab a healthy bite to eat, even if you are on the move!

“Gee. I bet you could get just anything you want in this kitchen,” marvels Big Bird, before the first lady points out a bowl of apples, peppers and oranges.

“Eating healthy is easy, and it’s fun and delicious, too,” Obama said.

The second video takes place in the White House East Room.

First Lady Michelle Obama and Sesame Street’s Big Bird teamed up to film two public service announcements encouraging kids to eat healthy and get active.

“It’s important to get your body moving every single day to help keep you healthy,” the first lady says while Big Bird alternately jogs and shows off his dance moves in the background.

Last fall, Big Bird became a centerpiece in the presidential election campaign after Republican candidate Mitt Romney vowed to cut funding for public television, despite declaring, “I love Big Bird.”

The Obama campaign seized upon Romney’s comments and made them part of the president’s stump speech.

David Axelrod, a former senior adviser to the president, couldn’t help but poke fun at the new video and its star.

“Is Big Bird REALLY interested in children’s health? Or is he just trying to cut down the consumption of wings?” he said in a tweet Thursday.
